Overview

The Siemens SOMATOM Sensation platform established new benchmarks for high-resolution multi-slice CT scanning. Designed for high-volume imaging centers, trauma facilities, and cardiology departments, the Sensation 16 and 64 systems combine high-speed volume acquisition with sub-millimeter detail.

At the heart of the system is Siemens’ STRATON™ X-ray tube, featuring a direct oil-cooled rotating anode design that eliminates the traditional thermal limits of standard CT tubes. Coupled with z-Sharp™ technology—which uses precise flying focal spot deflection to acquire overlapping projections—the Sensation generates clear 3D datasets, eliminating spiral artifacts and capturing subtle soft-tissue contrast.

• STRATON™ High-Performance Tube: Features an ultra-compact direct-chilled anode design with a 5.0 MHU/min heat dissipation rate. Eliminates thermal downtime between multi-phase body scans and cardiac protocols.

• z-Sharp™ Technology & Flying Focal Spot: Deflects the electron beam continuously to create two alternating focal spots. This doubles the X-ray projection density (double z-sampling) to achieve true 0.33 mm isotropic resolution without increasing radiation dose.

• UFC™ (Ultra Fast Ceramic) Detector Array: Employs ultra-short afterglow detector material for fast signal readout, low noise, and minimal radiation scatter.

• CARE Dose4D™ Real-Time Dose Management: Modulates tube current in real time along the x, y, and z axes based on patient geometry, reducing overall radiation dose by up to 68% compared to fixed-mA protocols.

• Fast Cardiac & Vascular Workflow: Rotation speeds down to 0.33s enable coronary artery imaging, calcium scoring, and vascular runoff CTA with minimal motion degradation.

• syngo® Multimodality User Interface: Provides streamlined protocol setup with pre-configured clinical modules for oncology, neuro, vascular, and pediatric radiology.
