Description
Overview
The Siemens SOMATOM Definition AS is designed to eliminate patient exclusions caused by physical size, high heart rates, or motion limitations. Engineered as an adaptable single-source platform, facilities can start with an entry-level slice configuration and seamlessly scale up to 128 slices on-site as clinical requirements grow.
Featuring a generous 78 cm (or 80 cm Open) gantry bore and a high-capacity patient table supporting up to 227 kg to 300 kg (661 lbs), the Definition AS easily accommodates bariatric patients, trauma access, and radiation therapy immobilizers. Driven by the STRATON™ X-ray tube with direct-oil cooling, the scanner maintains continuous high-mA output without mid-procedure thermal wait times.
Key Features & Advanced Technologies
-
STRATON™ Direct-Cooled Tube Technology: Uses direct-oil cooling to achieve an effective cooling rate of 7.3 MHU/min. This eliminates tube heat storage delays during back-to-back, high-mA trauma or whole-body CTA protocols.
-
Stellar Detector Array (Optional Upgrade): Digitizes signals directly at the detector photodiode level (TrueSignal technology) to minimize electronic noise, expand dynamic range, and deliver sharp 0.33 mm isotropic resolution.
-
Adaptive Dose Shield: Dynamically blocks unproductive pre- and post-spiral radiation, cutting unnecessary patient dose exposure by up to 15% during helical scanning.
-
SAFIRE™ & ADMIRE Iterative Reconstruction: Advanced model-based iterative reconstruction tools that lower radiation dose requirements by up to 60% while maintaining low-contrast detail and spatial clarity.
-
Adaptive 4D Spiral Coverage: Enables continuous dynamic volume scanning extending up to 42 cm Z-axis coverage for organ perfusion studies (such as acute stroke workups).
-
FAST CARE Architecture:
-
FAST (Fully Assisting Scanner Technology): Automates FOV setting, patient positioning, and workflow steps.
-
CARE (Combined Applications to Reduce Exposure): Uses CARE kV to automatically tune tube voltage to the patient’s individual anatomy.
-
-
Sliding Gantry Option: Available for surgical OR, trauma bay, and interventional suite configurations where the gantry moves along floor rails over a stationary bed.
